Cancellation Policy
The DRC provides program refunds up to (5) business days prior to the class or event start date, with a refund request. After that, no refund will be given. If equipment or supplies have been ordered for the participant, the cost of these items will not be refunded. A $3.00 service charge is deducted from all refunds except for those credited to an account. Due to program costs, including instructors, supplies, and to help maintain our class minimum, we ask for your cooperation when requesting a refund. To begin refund process, please call Guest Services at the DRC (316)788-3781.
Program Transfers
Participants are able to transfer their program registration to another individual prior to the start of the first class. Transfer forms must be completed in person at the Guest Services desk at the DRC. Transfers will not be accepted after the first class or event date. Memberships, rentals, personal training and Recreation Station are non-transferable.
Age Requirements
Appropriate ages are posted in the descriptions for each class. We cannot have infants or children in class unless it’s a pre-designed kid’s class. Children detract from the experience of other students. Adult classes are for those eighteen (18) years of age or older. Please do not enroll underage students in adult classes – your child will be asked to leave and we cannot refund your payment.
- Beginner Chef – Ages 3 to 6 (accompanied by a parent)
- Kid Chef– Ages 7 to 10
- Young Chef - Ages 11 to 15
- Adults 16 and up
Childcare
DRC Kids’ Club
Child care is available at the DRC both as a drop-in service and during specific class times. Please check your current Derby Recreation Center Program Guide for available times and fees. The standard DRC child care policies apply. Ages for Kid’s Club: 6 weeks - 8 years old.
Parking
Parking is free of charge and available around the facility. Additional parking is available on side streets and the DRC parking lot.
Allergy Policy
The DRC Kitchen is NOT an allergy safe environment. We use flour sugar, butter, eggs, nuts of all varieties and other ingredients that may not be considered allergy safe. By registering for a class you assume all responsibilities for the proper handling of your allergy.
Dress Code
Wear comfy, closed toes shoes (no heels, open toes, sandals or flip flops). An apron and gloves will be loaned to you. Hair nets are not required, but we ask that long hair be pulled back.
Classroom Etiquette
The class begins on time. Please show up promptly. Late comers will miss part of the experience/recipes and cause the class to have to rush to try and finish on time. There is no waiting for people to show up or make up what they missed.
As a courtesy to your fellow students and our instructors, all cellular phones should be either turned off or placed on “vibrate” while class is in session. If necessary, you may use your phone in our reception area. Talking on the phone in the classroom, while class is in session, is not permitted.
Please do not linger after class so staff can clean up and prepare for the next class.
Inclement Weather Program Policy
If the DRC, OAC or Hubbard Arts Center closes due to inclement weather, classes will be canceled and will not be made up.
If the DRC, OAC or Hubbard Arts Center are open, but USD 260 cancels school, classes will be held at the DRC/OAC/HAC, but any programs being held in the schools will be canceled, and will not be made up.
Programs being held at any other location (ex: Park Grounds Coffee House, Library, etc) will be held if they are open. If they close, our program will be canceled and will not be made up.
One Day Events
In case of inclement weather, one day events will be canceled unless there is a contingency plan or a pre-determined make-up date.
Alcohol Policy
Alcohol will be permitted on the premises as per the Derby Recreation Commission’s alcohol use policy.
Wheelchair Access
We aim to provide The Kitchen participants with an exceptional experience. As such, persons with disabilities are welcome as the facility is wheelchair accessible.
